Catamount Trail Association Presents Jeff Foltz, Author of Birkebeiner–A Story Of Motherhood and War

The Catamount Trail Association will host its 28th Annual Meeting this Saturday on November 12, 2011 from 3 to 5 p.m.  This free, open-to-the-public event will be held at the Green Mountain Club Headquarters in Waterbury Center. Light refreshments will be served.

Find out what’s new with the Catamount Trail at our short business meeting and then enjoy an inspiring reading and question-answer session with Jeff Foltz, the author of Birkebeiner–A Story of Motherhood and War.

In his book, Jeff Foltz gives voice to the story behind the painting by Knud Larsen Bergslien of two medieval soldiers, heavily armed, on skis, carrying a curly haired infant. Set in Norway, it is the harrowing story of a mother’s devotion to protect her child, a future king. She insists on making the approximate 50-kilometer trek on skies with the soldiers through the unforgiving Norwegian mountains and tumultuous winter weather while avoiding those who wish to kill her son. It is a timeless story that will make Nordic skiers today all the more aware of the history behind the world famous Birkebeiner marathon race.
