Wear Your Flannel to Craftsbury’s Henley-on-Holsmer
From our friends at Craftsbury Outdoor Center:
Mark your social and sporting calendars! Craftsbury is pleased to announce the first ever Henley-on-Hosmer to be held Saturday the 6th through Sunday the 7th October 2012 in conjunction with our Octoberfest celebration. Oarsmen and oarswomen shall race single sculls two abreast over the full length of Big Hosmer Pond (1 mile, 1320 yards) with the winner proceeding to the next round. Head style qualification races shall be employed as deemed necessary by the Stewards. Racing shall begin promptly at 10 a.m. on Saturday the 6th and all entrants shall race a minimum of two times over the course of the regatta.
Competition will be offered for men and women in both the open and masters divisions. A baker’s dozen and three rowers will contest each division. Brackets shall be determined at the Stewards’ absolute discretion. Appropriate vessels (plates, goblets, sap buckets, etc.) will be awarded as prizes.
Attendants wishing to gain admission to the Stewards’ Enclosure must dress in accordance with long-established Vermont tradition. Ladies and Gentlemen are required to wear cut-offs or Carhartts and flannel. Whilst not a requirement, it is customary for the hemline to be above the knee.
Race entry is free for those taking advantage of Craftsbury’s Octoberfest weekend lodging packages (below), $20 for Craftsbury members, and $35 for all others. An e-mailable entry form is available at the Craftsbury website and payment may be made by credit card by calling the Craftsbury Office at 802-586-7767. Entries close at 11:59 p.m. on the sixth day prior to the start of racing. In 2012, this is midnight on September 30.
Lodging is available both Friday and Saturday nights for $95 per person per night double occupancy, and includes the race entry and three hearty meals-one of which will be the Octoberfest itself. Call 802-586-7767 to make your reservations.
