Reminder: Stay off wet trails or this kitten explodes

Attn: Mountain bikers,

Winter’s making its slow retreat and the rising temperatures have some of our favorite trails looking open. While it’s tempting to dust off the bike and let it rip, Phil Keyes at the New England Mountain Biking Association is asking you – begging you – to please hold off for now.

In a reminder PSA from DirtWire, Keyes makes his case: Riding on muddy trails isn’t a good idea. Tires on wet trails leave nasty ruts that will stick around. It’s also bad PR if we want to keep the trails open to everyone.

“Please, stay off the trails, leave no trace and come back and ride when the trails are nice and hard,” he says.

To underscore the point, every time you sneak in a lap, somewhere in the world, a kitten explodes.

Please, think of the kittens. Please.
