Major Snowmaking Upgrades at Burke

From our friends at Burke Mountain:

A welcome and promising sight pulled through the village of East Burke at the end of August.  The first shipment of snow guns arrived on a tractor trailer, signaling the start of major snowmaking upgrades for the mountain.  In a joint effort between QBurke Mountain Resorts and Burke Mountain Academy, some of the many new improvements to the snowmaking system will include a new 800hp Cameron compressor as well as 140 high efficiency snow guns, some of them replacing outdated, inefficient snow guns currently in use at the mountain.

The new system will not only significantly increase snowmaking capability, but will also dramatically reduce the amount of energy required to make snow.  “This will be a tremendous improvement to our snowmaking system that will allow us to commit to opening the resort earlier at the start of the season, staying open later at the end of the season, and making more snow all around.  Our goal is to have one of our earliest openings with more trails (weather permitting) for the 2012/13 season.” says General Manager Tim McGuire

Guests will see snowmaking happen both earlier and later in the season, especially on trail favorites like Little Dipper, Bear Den, Upper and Lower Willoughby along with several lower mountain trails.

QBurke Mountain Resorts, headed by Ariel Quiros and partner Bill Stenger, president and co-owner with Mr. Quiros of Jay Peak Resorts, took ownership of Burke Mountain Resort May 22, 2012.
