Spring Fling Weekend at Craftsbury

From our friends at Craftsbury Outdoor Center:
This weekend, the Craftsbury Outdoor Center will host its annual Spring Fling Weekend, a season finale celebration with events starting on Friday afternoon, March 22nd and continuing through Sunday March 24th.

New England’s top cross-country skiers will kick things off Friday at 3:30pm with a 3K time-trial that is the first stage of a three-day Spring Tour. On Saturday, the Spring Tour continues with a sprint qualifier starting at 10:00am and head-to-head final heats going off around noon. After the sprint heats, at around 2:00pm, all are invited to a free biathlon clinic and exhibition race featuring US Biathlon Team members Susan Dunklee and Hannah Dreissigacker. Everyone will get a chance to learn how to shoot a biathlon rifle under the guidance of US Biathlon coach, Algis Shalna, and there will be prizes provided by the US Biathlon Association including official US Team gear.

The Spring Tour wraps up on Sunday with a pursuit start race beginning at 10:00am. A classic technique citizen’s Spring Fling race with 15K and 30K options will follow the start of the men’s Spring Tour pursuit, with the gun going off around 11:15am. There will also be a 5K race at 10:30am for kids under 14 years old. The Craftsbury Outdoor Center’s trails will be open all day for recreational skiers and snowshoers as well.

As the races wind down, there will be a barbeque and sugar-on-snow as part of Craftsbury’s annual Skier Appreciation Day. For more information or to register for races, visit www.craftsbury.com
