Oh Yes It’s Ladies’ Night

And the feeling’s right … on Tuesdays at the Valley Rock Gym in Warren! I had the pleasure of climbing with several ladies, who varied in age and skill level, at the little-known rock wall that is part of Sugarbush Health and Racquet Club.

Lauren Deeley,  a Chicago native who most recently lived in Costa Rica, is the heart and soul of this place, as she has carefully built fun routes that vary from easy to very challenging. Lauren (pictured below, wearing a pink shirt) is extremely encouraging, and is adept at translating her climbing skills into instruction. There are some routes built around inner corners, outer corners, and the pitch varies on either side of the room. The other women who climb are very encouraging too.

The ladies night happens from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, and it’s a wonderfully supportive environment for beginning and experienced climbers. It’s a growing community, and you’re welcome to join. The price is right too: climbing time and equipment rental is just $12.
